On June 14, 2005 Glen Oaks Community College Foundation President, James E. Riley presented Glen Oaks Community College President Glenn S. Oxender and GOCC Board of Directors President Taylor Snow with a $1 Million ceremonial check toward the construction of the Dale E. Gray Science Building during the groundbreaking ceremony. Philanthropic gifts of $900,000 and $100,000 from the Foundations general fund, plus $600,000 from the College’s debt retirement fund matched the State of Michigan’s $1.6 million grant to construct the much needed new science labs and classrooms.

“There are people that watch things happen and there are people that make things happen. It’s a great day because I’m among a lot of people that make things happen,” said James E. Riley to the gathered guest at the groundbreaking.
Phyllis E. Gray, the major private donor and widow of the building’s namesake, Dale E. Gray, participated in the groundbreaking.
