Currently Open Scholarships

Campus Explorer Exclusive Scholarship is a monthly $1,000 giveaway, designed to help students pay for their  higher-education expenses. Every month, Campus Explorer will announce a  new scholarship – and a new way to win. A winner will be randomly  selected from the entrants.  

   

Nursing Student Scholarship The amount of the scholarship for 2012 is $1,000.00. In order to be considered for an award, a candidate must be currently enrolled in a Licensed Practical Nurse, Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree Nursing education program and must have successfully completed at least one nursing course with a clinical component. Successful completion is defined as a grade of a ("C") or better. Recipients will be notified in March 2012.  

  

TRiO Scholars Award All TRiO SSS students are eligible for this scholarship.  Awards will be offered during Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer semesters of $750/full-time students and $500/part-time.  Students must also meet the additional criteria

 

MassMutual Scholars A national scholarship program for high-achieving African American, Asian, and Hispanic students interested in careers in the insurance and financial services industry

 

 

 

Glen Oaks Foundation Scholarships

 

The Glen Oaks Community College Foundation Scholarship Application is available for the 2012-2013 academic year. Applicants must also complete a 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) located on-line at www.fafsa.gov.

 

All Glen Oaks Community College Foundation Scholarships can be used for education related expenses and consider academic ability, financial circumstances, and career goals in the selection of the recipients.

 

The Glen Oaks Community College Foundation Scholarship Application is available in the Glen Oaks Financial Aid Office on campus or online

GOCC Institutional Scholarships

 

Art Scholarship - Awarded to students showing potential in the area of art. Recipients must complete at least two art studio courses each semester and maintain a t least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average to renew the scholarship. Recipients must enroll full-time. Students will need to contact the art department for more information (ext. 227).

 

Athletic Scholarship - Awarded to students showing potential in athletics. Recipients must maintain eligibility requirements set forth by the N.J.C.A.A. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and enroll full-time. Students need to contact the athletic department for more information (ext. 215).

 

 

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship - Requires a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 in an occupational field. Instructors will select recipients. Recipients must enroll half-time.

 

Dean’s Scholarship - This scholarship is intended to attract recent area high-school graduates who have potential for outstanding achievement while attending Glen Oaks. Recipients must enroll full-time. Student will need to contact high-school guidance counselor to confirm they will be on the mailing list. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to apply for this scholarship.  Application form

 

Presidential Scholarship - Awarded to graduating area high-school seniors who have an excellent academic record in high school and who have potential for outstanding achievement while attending Glen Oaks. The scholarship will cover all educational costs up to award amount. Recipient must enroll full-time. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required to apply for this scholarship. Student will need to contact high-school guidance counselor to confirm they will be on the mailing list.  Application form

 

Science Scholarship - Awarded to student(s) following the Natural Science or Engineering Associate Degree curriculum. Recipient must meet all general requirements standard to the college, declare a Math or Natural Science major and place in college level courses for Math, Natural Science and English on ACT Placement test. Student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Student must enroll full-time. Student will need to contact science department for more information (ext. 224). 

 

TRiO Scholars Award
All TRiO SSS students are eligible for this scholarship.  Awards will be offered during Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer semesters of $750/full-time students and $500/part-time.  Students must also meet certian criteria. 

 

TRiO Academic Success Scholarship
This scholarship is only offered for Fall and Winter semesters.  Scholarships will be automatically awarded to the two (2) TRiO SSS students with the HIGHEST GPA of the previous semester (Fall or Winter only).  The monetary award will be $250/student.
 
TRiO Achiever Scholarship
This scholarship is only offered for Fall and Winter semesters. Scholarships will be automatically awarded to the two (2) TRiO SSS students who have shown the most improvement during the previous semester (Fall or Winter only). The monetary award will be $250/student.
 
 
 

State of Michigan Scholarships / Grants

 

Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) is an incentive program that encourages eligible students to complete high school by providing tuition assistance for the first two years of college and beyond. To meet the financial eligibility requirement, a student must have (or have had) Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-consecutive-month period as identified by the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS). TIP provides assistance in two phases. Phase I covers tuition and mandatory fee charges for eligible students enrolled in a credit-based associate degree or certificate program at a participating Michigan community college, public university, degree-granting independent college, federal tribally-controlled college, or Focus: HOPE. Phase II provides a maximum of $2,000 total tuition assistance for credits earned in a four-year program at an in-state, degree-granting college or university.

 

 

Michigan Competitive Scholarship - The Michigan Competitive Scholarship program is available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degrees at an approved Michigan postsecondary institution.  Students must demonstrate both financial need and merit and eligible applicants must take the ACT and achieve a qualifying score prior to entering college.

Miscellaneous Scholarships

 

Independence Day Scholarship This $5000 scholarship is open to students of all national backgrounds that are currently studying in the United States or in an American military school out of the country.

Castle Ink's Green Scholarship  This $2500 scholarships is for students who are United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average.

 

Help Johnny Scholarship (Deadline: Varies) This $5000 scholarship is available to any student that is 19 years or under, as of October 25, 2010 and is renewable.

 

Kristy’s Kids Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to students pursuing a degree/certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Society of American Travel Writers Scholarship Applicants must be ages 13-18 and attending grades 8-12 as of May 15, 2010. The travel experience you write about must have occurred within the last three years.

 

St. Joseph County Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship - Established in 2007, this $750 scholarship is intended for Glen Oaks students.

 

Sturgis Exchange Club Swihart Scholarship Awarded to students pursuing a degree in Health Occupations.

 

Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary Medical Scholarship Guild- Awarded to students pursuing a degree in Health Occupations

 

The First National Bank Scholarship/Three Rivers American Legion Student Nurses Scholarship Fund- Awarded annually to a student attending an accredited school of nursing.

 

The Women’s Education Coalition Grant Program Applicants must be adult women who have had a significant break in their formal education and can demonstrate how post-high school education will help them reach their goals of increased financial independence. Both part-time and full-time students may apply for assistance.
