In accordance with the mission of a community college, Allied
Health faculty at Glen Oaks Community College are expected to teach a range of
courses including Medical Terminology, Medical Law and Bioethics, Disease
Conditions, Pharmacology, Medical
Assisting Exam Review, and administrative and clinical courses in the Medical
Assisting and Medical Administrative Specialist programs.
Faculty are expected to facilitate student learning by
designing varied and engaging learning environments, developing and revising
course curricula, integrating new technologies, embracing a multicultural
environment and participating in academic and college committees and meetings.
THE ACADEMIC AREA
The Allied Health area at Glen Oaks Community College offers a
wide range of courses. In addition to traditional classroom/lab environments,
the college provides online offerings, and faculty members are encouraged to
design new delivery modes and explore innovative pedagogical methods.
A Bachelor’s degree and a background in the medical office
environment. Must be credentialed in
medical assisting and coding/billing/electronic records by a credentialing
organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies
(NCCA). Demonstrated sensitivity to and
understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
ability/disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students,
faculty and staff.
Credentials in Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and/or
Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Office based (CCS-P), CNA, LPN/RN. Experience in community college teaching, an
