Refunds
Glen Oaks believes that students should be allowed to attend at least one class meeting without penalty. During that class meeting, students can review the detailed requirements of the course syllabus and estimate the work load required. This should enable students to make an informed judgment about the course and increase their probability of success. In light of this principle, the following refund policy has been adopted.
Any student who officially drops a course or courses during the registration period and during the first 10% of the academic period may, upon application, receive a full refund of 100% for the tuition and fees.
Any student who officially drops a course or courses after 10% of the academic period and up to 20% of the academic period may, upon application, receive a refund of 50% of tuition and fees.
Tuition and Fees Refund
Generally, refunds can be made as follows:
Registration Period & 10% Academic Period......................................100%
From 10%-20% of Academic Period....................................................50%
After 20% of Academic Period..............................................................0%
The Glen Oaks refund policy exists for calculating the refund of institutional charges. If a student has received federal Title IV funds (Pell grant, SEOG Direct Loans, etc.) and completely withdraws, the federal return of Title IC funds formula dictates the amount of federal aid that must be returned to the federal government by the student and by Glen Oaks. This formula is applicable to students that withdraw on or before the 60% point in the semester. A detailed explanation of federal policy and federal Return of Funds worksheets may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.
In a student's first semester at GOCC, if he or she is receiving any Title IV funding, and withdraws from all classes prior to the 60th percentile of the semester, a pro-rata refund will be calculated to make adjustments in the federal student financial aid award. A copy of this refund calculation can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.
Students returning to GOCC who are receiving Title IV funding and withdraw from all classes prior to the 50th percentile of the semester will have a Federal Methodology.
Students who registered for a course which is canceled by the college will be refunded all tuition and fees relative to the canceled course.
Exceptions
Upon written approval of the Dean of the College, a full refund of all tuition may be given on withdrawal at any time during the first two-thirds of the semester, in the following circumstances:
- Induction or activation of the student into the US Armed Forces
- Death of the enrolled student,
- Verifiable incapacity, illness,
- Injury which prevents the student from returning to school for the remainder of the semester.
Exceptions are not allowable under Federal Methodology or Federal Pro Rata Refund Policies. The handling of special circumstances such as those listed above is outlined within the Federal Financial Aid regulations.
