GOCC Athletic Department


Steve Proefrock is the Men's Head Basketball Coach and Professor of Physical Education.


He has a masters in Physical Education at Eastern Kentucky and is a graduate of Reed City High School. His current residence is Three Rivers, Michigan.

 

Glen Oaks is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), as well has the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA).

 News Release, August 6, 2008 - Glen Oaks Athletes Earn Top Academic Awards

 

Steve Proefrock, athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Glen Oaks Community College, announces that seven athletes and last year’s entire Lady Vikings basketball team have earned top academic awards. "We are extremely proud of the student athletes for their diligence in the classroom. It is not an easy task to balance practice, games and academic workload all at the same time. They did it very well and they should be commended for it," said Proefrock.

 

Proefrock said the Michigan Community College Athletic Association awarded All-State academic honors to Megan Ailes, a softball team member from Kalamazoo, Jessica Alexander , a basketball and softball team member from Mendon, Lauren Bohannon, a basketball team member from Tecumseh, Megan King, a basketball team member from Topinabee, and Narissa Kirby, a cross country team member from Sturgis, for achieving 3.2-3.5 grade point averages. Achieving All-Conference honors from the MCCAA was Rebecca Romain, a cross country team member from Constantine, for a 3.0-3.1 grade point average.

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association selected the Glen Oaks’ Lady Vikings basketball team for Spring Academic Team of the Year based on an overall 3.23 grade point average. Members of the 2007-2008 women’s basketball team were: Tiffany Bol of Marcellus, Calley Tucker of Nappanee, Ind., Megan King of Topinabee, Lauren Bohannon of Tecumseh, Kayla Hamilton of Decatur, Jamie Toepper of Portage, Jessica Alexander of Mendon, Nakema Gillenwater of Westport, Ind., Lindsey Ransbottom of Marcellus, Kari MacQueen of Holland, and Brittany Thorpe-Hough of Decatur.

 

Kari MacQueen was also nominated for a Scholar-Athlete Award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for achieving a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Kari plays both basketball and softball.
