1. Apply for Admission.
Submit an Application for Admission. Please note: Social security numbers are not required for acceptance; however, students who plan to apply for federal financial aid must provide a social security number on the application. Without a social security number, the Financial Aid Office cannot award federal aid, and the college cannot provide tuition information for federal tax credits. Students who wish not to provide a social security number must complete a printableApplication for Admission and submit it to the Glen Oaks Admissions Office.
2. Apply for Financial Aid.
To apply for Financial Aid, visit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) web site at www.fafsa.gov. For questions or additional information, contact the Financial Aid Office at 269-294-4260 or toll free at 888-994-7818, ext. 260. Priority deadlines are as follows: Fall Aid—June 1; Winter Aid—November 1; Spring/Summer Aid—March 1. You may apply for financial aid after the deadline, but there is no guarantee that your aid package will be complete by the registration date. In such instances, the student pays all costs and is reimbursed if eligible for aid.
3. Schedule an appointment for the Course Placement Evaluation.
If you are a new student enrolling in classes, you will need to participate in the Course Placement Test. Call the Tutoring and Testing Center at 269-294-4270 or 888-994-7818, ext. 270, to schedule an appointment. Photo identification is required the day of the test. Students who have earned a prior degree or have met qualifying ACT or SAT scores are exempt from the test (ACT English 19; ACT Reading 19; ACT Math 23; SAT Verbal 450; SAT Math 560).
4. Request official copies of transcripts to be sent directly to the Glen Oaks Admissions Office.
Please send official copies of high school, Adult Education, GED, or college transcripts to Glen Oaks Community College for evaluation prior to registering for classes. Transcripts must be mailed from the school/organization directly to Glen Oaks. Official transcripts cannot be hand-carried or faxed.
5. Activate your GO-Zone account.
The GO-Zone is an integral part of the communications process at Glen Oaks. You will use this portal to access your student email, grades, financial aid, account summaries, and college communications. Go to www.glenoaks.edu, click on GO-Zone, and use the New Student Wizard to set up your account. Instructions for logging into the Go-Zone are mailed with your acceptance letter.
6. Plan a program of study with an academic advisor.
Academic advisors are available to help students clarify their educational goals and to identify courses needed to meet certificate or degree requirements. During registration periods, advising is available on a walk-in basis; no appointments are necessary. During non-registration periods, students should make an appointment for academic advisement by calling 269-294-4246 or 888-994-7818, ext. 246. You must take the Course Placement Test or submit ACT/SAT scores prior to scheduling classes with an advisor.
7. Attend New Student Orientation.
New Student Orientation is designed to help students become more familiar with the college and its policies and procedures. Register for an on-campus orientation session under the Future Students section at www.glenoaks.edu. Orientation is mandatory for new students and must be completed prior to registering for classes.
