The Glen Oaks Community College volleyball team returned home from the Owens Community College Invitational with a 2-2 record. The Vikings opened the invite Friday against the #2 team in division 2, Parkland Community College, and dropped all three sets, 17-25, 11-25, 16-25. Glen Oaks would bounce back beating #4 in division 3 Columbus State Community College in an excited 5 set match. They lost the first two sets 21-25 and 17-25 to take the next three in a row 28-26, 25-21, 17-15 to win the match. On Saturday, Glen Oaks took on Region 12 foe Sinclair to win in 4 sets 25-22, 9-25, 25-19, 25-23 but lost to #13 Catawba Valley in 5 sets after winning the first two, 26-24, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 17-19.
Leading the weekend was Mackenzi Dobosiewicz (Fr, Constantine HS) with 72 kills. Dobosiewicz is #4 in the country and #1 in the league with 150 kills over 10 matches. Jora Barnes (Fr, Buchanan HS) respectively put up 41 kills in the weekend effort. Sophomore Britta Mollberg (So, Buchanan) had 124 assists putting her 13th in the nation and Tessa Hawkins 113 digs has her sitting in 5th place nationally, while Liz Kuntz (S0, Buchanan) sits 2nd in solo blocks after adding 8 more at the invite.
The Vikings, 6-4, 0-2 in conference play, are on the road today taking on #20 Muskegon Community College at 6:30pm and are back home on Thursday against Lake Michigan College at 6:30pm.
