Mike Elliott
Head Men's Basketball Coach
The 2022-23 season will be year two for Mike Elliott as the head coach of the Glen Oaks Community College Mens’s basketball team. Coach is an alumnus of Glen Oaks (94’) where he earned an Associate of Business degree and is an Indianapolis native from North Central High School (92’).
Coach Elliott spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Glen Oaks Community College. While at Glen Oaks, Elliott set the single game assists record with 22 assists in one game, which still stands today. Elliott then earned a scholarship to Montana State University for the final two years of his collegiate career. In his senior year Montana State qualified for the NCAA Tournament losing to Final Four runner-up Syracuse University in the first round. Elliott and his 1996 Montana State teammates were inducted into the Hall of Fame at Montana State University.
After college Coach Elliott spent 10 ½ years competing professionally from 1996-2007 in Europe, Asia and in the CBA (United States).
He then acquired his B.A. degree from, Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI). Following his retirement as a player, Coach Elliott, has been in the educational field as a High School Social Studies teacher for 14 years. He also has served as an Athletic Director on the high school and middle school levels.
Prior to taking over at Glen Oaks, Coach Elliott spent 14 years coaching at the high school level, 10 of those as a head coach. Elliott served as an assistant coach for North Central High School on their 2009-10 state champion team. Elliott recently served as an assistant at Anderson University during the 20-21 seasons. His head coaching journey includes, Anderson High School, TC Howe High School, Fall Creek Academy and Mundy’s Mill High School in Jonesboro, Ga. During his time at Mundy’s Mill High school, he led them to a Sweet Sixteen appearance and back-to-back 20+ win seasons. Coach Elliott has had the opportunity to coach an Indiana Mr. Basketball winner, five Indiana All-Stars, a Georgia All-Star and several all-conference selections on the high school and collegiate level. He currently has several former players playing professional basketball in Europe.
In Coach Elliott’s first year at the helm at Glen Oaks (12-17), three players earned All-MCCAA honors, one second team and two honorable mentions. He also had a player move onto a four-year college (Purdue-Northwest) after year one.
Coach Elliott states “I am excited to continue to build Glen Oaks as a competitive program and develop players that are attractive to four-year programs.”
