Ed Culp - Golf Coach

Culp returns to Glen Oaks as head golf coach

After a 14-year hiatus, Ed Culp is returning to Glen Oaks as head golf coach for the Vikings.

Culp had a successful stint between 1998 and 2006 where the Vikings qualified a player six out of eight years for the National Junior College tournament finals. During this time the Vikings reached the top 20 ranking in the country for the first time.

More recently, Culp has been coaching, at times both the men’s and women’s varsity teams at Portage Northern High School. He led both programs to an appearance at the MHSAA state finals.

Culp received the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Coach of the Year award in 2002. He also received the Division 1 MHSAA Regional Coach of the Year award while at Portage Northern.

Culp loves coaching and working with young adults who are learning the game at all skill levels. He has taught private and group lessons for 25 years, including a successful summer class at Glen Oaks for the beginner and recreational golfer.

Culp has been the Men’s Club Champion in all five courses where he has held memberships in St. Joseph County and he has been the St. Joseph County champion.

After attending Glen Oaks, Culp attended Western Michigan University and Spring Arbor College and has a bachelor’s degree in business management of human resources.

Culp resides in Mendon, MI, and is a graduate of Mendon High School. He and his wife, Virginia, have two grown children, Kasey, of Louisville, KY, and Kyle, of Golden, CO.
