GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Dean of Advanced Technologies and Public Services works collaboratively with the Vice President of Academics to provide leadership for the advanced technologies and public services programs of Glen Oaks Community College. The position is responsible for the development, supervision, and management of the College’s advanced technologies and public services programs, which includes agriculture, automotive, business, CAD and design, computer science, criminal justice, education, electrical, machining, and welding; Carl D. Perkins grant; and collaborates other members on the academic team to develop, monitor, and staff the academic class schedule. The Dean of Advanced Technologies and Public Services is a leader within the academic team and works collaboratively with all academic and College employees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides leadership, management, and support for long- and short-term planning activities related to advanced technologies and public services.
  2. Hires, onboards, mentors, supervises, and evaluates advanced technologies and public services full- and part-time faculty.
  3. Works collaboratively with the Vice President and other members of the academic team to develop, monitor, and staff the yearlong academic class schedule.
  4. Develops and maintains advanced technologies and public services partnerships with K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and business/industry and community organizations to ensure that the College’s programs are relevant to civic, economic, and societal needs.
  5. Maintain, update, and review advanced technologies and public services content for the college catalog and other informational literature.
  6. Participate in program review and collaboratively work with members of the academic team to evaluate existing programs and explore the addition of new programs appropriate to the mission of the College.
  7. Encourages and supports advanced technologies and public services faculty and staff in assessing student learning outcomes at the course, program, co-curricular, and institutional/general education levels.
  8. Manages the Carl D. Perkins Local and Local Leadership grants, including the PROE process for State-approved occupational programs. Ensures compliance through regular program review and accurate record keeping.
  9. Works collaboratively with the Director of Business Outreach and Services to coordinate credit specific offerings in business and industry.
  10. Participates in and/or chairs committees to support shared governance at Glen Oaks Community College.
  11. Coordinates and participates in advisory committee meetings for advanced technologies and public services programs.
  12. Participates in budget development and monitor the budget for the advanced technologies and public services.
  13. Assists with advanced technologies and public services work-based learning opportunities (internships, apprenticeships, etc.) and training classes.
  14. Works with the campus staff to appropriately research, direct, and address student questions, appeals, and other related matters.
  15. Serves as the College’s representative in local, state, and national organizations related to advanced technologies and public services.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academics.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP:

As assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree.
  2. Experience in a post-secondary leadership position.
  3. Excellent communication skills, orally and in writing.
  4. Exceptional organizational Skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctoral degree.
  2. Experience as a department chair or academic dean/associate dean.
  3. Experience as a community college full-time or adjunct faculty member.
