The Sturgis Civic Players, in partnership with Glen Oaks Community College, present “Little Shop of Horrors” in two performances on Sat., May 4 at 7 p.m. and Sun., May 5 at 2 p.m. The musical will be held at the Nora Hagen Theatre on the Glen Oaks campus.
Over a dozen Glen Oaks students are members of the cast and crew in the musical that takes place in the 1960’s in a rough neighborhood of New York City referred to as “Skid Row.” Seymore Krelborn, a plant caretaker in a florist shop, tends to a strange and interesting plant that has an unusual trait – it feeds on human blood.
Krelborn is played by Eddie LeBoeuf, of Colon; other leading cast members include Jarod King, of Burr Oak; Jenni Van Lieu, of Reading; Eric Connelly, of Sturgis; Tory Gage, of Centreville; Tessa Hawkins, of Three Rivers; and Kianna Sterlini, of Colon.
The musical is directed by Ruth Ann Kuhlman, with musical direction by Valorie Juergens and voice coach, Tamara Sterlini, and choreography by Michelle Klar.
“We are excited about our new partnership with Glen Oaks Community College,” said Paul Rooyakkers, president of the Sturgis Civic Players. “The college has been gracious enough to allow us the use of the Nora Hagen Theatre for the show, and it’s a great location for the size of venue for our performances.”
