Glen Oaks Athletic Media Room gets total makeover – thanks to alumni donor

The Athletic Media Room at Glen Oaks Community College is sporting a vibrant new look – thanks to GOCC alumnus Christopher (Kip) Young, and his firm KalBlue Group, of Kalamazoo. The project, completed last week, features a completely enhanced look aimed to help inspire and motivate its current and future athletic programs and student athletes. The rooms interior walls are covered in custom printed commercial grade wallcovering designed by Blue360; a creative division of KalBlue Group.

The room highlights the new Viking athletics branding throughout with murals and life-size sports images of Viking athletes in action, enhanced with colorful raised PVC and acrylic lettering throughout to provide a three-dimensional look. The interior finishes were produced and fabricated using CNC routed brushed metal signage, second surface printed and cut acrylic logos and letters, vinyl graphics and branding of current and former athletes and coaches. It also includes a four-foot layered raised display of the new Viking helmet athletic logo, also designed by KalBlue Group earlier this year.

“It changes the vibes in the room,” said Dr. David H. Devier, Glen Oaks president “This is where we bring in prospective athletes to learn about our athletic programs and hold commitment signings. The new graphic displays take it to an exciting new level.”

“I am very proud to be able to provide a significant upgrade to the Media Room at Glen Oaks,” said Kip Young, president & CEO of KalBlue Group. “My parents went here, I went here, and now my son plays baseball here. This room will greatly improve athlete engagement in both recruiting and during a student’s time at the college.”

KalBlue Group opened its doors in 1960 and has evolved into a digital print powerhouse providing complete visual communication resources including everything from business cards to wall coverings.
