Glen Oaks Community College announced Tuesday its participation in the Michigan Community College Guarantee, offering tuition-free associate degrees or skills certificates to eligible local high school graduates.
The initiative, part of a statewide effort to increase higher education accessibility, could save students up to $4,800 annually.
“This program represents a significant opportunity for our rural community,” said Tonya Howden, vice president of student services at Glen Oaks Community College. “By removing financial barriers, we’re opening doors for talented individuals to pursue their academic and career goals right here at home.”
Starting this academic year, Michigan high school graduates from the Class of 2023 and beyond can earn an associate degree, transfer credits, or a career certificate tuition-free at Glen Oaks Community College.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year
- Graduate from a Michigan high school or earn an equivalent certificate
- Enroll full-time at Glen Oaks Community College within 15 months of high school graduation
The scholarship covers in-district tuition and is renewable for up to three years at Glen Oaks, with the option to transfer to a four-year institution for continued support. In-district students are those who reside in St. Joseph county.
