Glen Oaks kicks off Spring/Summer 2014 Continuing Education courses with landscaping

Glen Oaks Community College has announced its Continuing Education course
offerings, and will kick off the spring with a course in landscaping. To register for CE courses,

SPRING/SUMMER
Landscaping
The instructor will provide a step-by-step guide on how to plant annuals, mulch, and prepare
your landscape through a thorough spring cleanup. Participants should bring specific landscape
related questions and plant photos to help with questions.

When: Monday, May 19, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Glen Oaks Community College
Cost: $40

Women in WWII
This 11⁄2 hour class examines women during World War II who actively participated in the war
working in such industries as bomb factories and the manufacturing of tanks on the home front,
women who trained for active armed service, experienced active warfare, and women who
participated in such activities as resistance movements.

Instructor: Irene Elksnis-Geisler
When: Monday, June 2, 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Glen Oaks Community College
Cost: $40

Landscaping – Upkeep and Pruning
The instructor will provide a step-by-step guide on what to do during the summer months to
keep your plants alive and thriving, including pruning. Participants should bring specific
landscape related questions and plant photos to help with questions.

Astronomy
This class will look at the highlights of some of the significant people and events in the history
of astronomy, how to spot popular stars, constellations, planets and other galactic objects
visible to the naked eye, and the relationship between the sun, moon and earth—plus additional
tips for basic stargazing.

When: Tuesday, August 5, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
