Glen Oaks receives $15,000 MEDC grant for welding supplies

Glen Oaks Community College is the recipient of a $15,000 Michigan Economic Development Corp., (MEDC) Training Center Equipment grant. The funds will be used to purchase supplies for the new welding technologies lab.

College representatives were notified of the grant in early March. “We were very pleased to receive approval for this grant,” said Alyse Bannister, welding instructor. “It was an extremely huge surprise. With these funds, we are now able to purchase much-needed tooling for the lab. Some of the equipment that has been ordered was too expensive to purchase within our current budget. The grant has allowed me to purchase more durable products that will not only last longer, but will provide a safer grade of product for student use.

The Michigan Workforce Training Center Equipment Grant Program supports the equipment needs of qualified training providers that provide workforce training for qualified employers and individuals in Michigan.
