Wednesday, Jan. 21, on the concourse with a pancake and sausage brunch. However, there’s a twist—
they will have to catch their pancakes before they can enjoy them.
Chris Cakes of Michigan, which is known for its flying pancakes, has been featured on the Food Network, has
served four presidents and 16 governors, and holds the Guinness Book of Records for most pancakes made in
an hour, and for most pancakes tossed and caught.
“We hope the students, faculty and staff will enjoy the entertainment as much as they enjoy the tasty brunch,”
said Val Juergens, executive director of communications and marketing at the College, who is also heading up
the College’s 50 th anniversary events. “This event is the first of a number of activities we have planned as part
of the Glen Oaks 50 th Anniversary Celebration.”
It was on June 14, 1965, that the newly formed board set forth an election to establish a community college,
to fund it with a one and one half mill levy. More than 6,000 voters turned out for the election and approved
the establishment of the funding of a community college district for St. Joseph County by a margin of over two
In addition to the brunch, other activities planned throughout the year in celebration of this milestone event
athletes will be invited to this event to be recognized between the Women and Men’s basketball games
against Kalamazoo Valley Community College. A special reception will be held for the former Vikings
following the Men’s game.
Apr. 17 – Glen Oaks Variety Show – Students, faculty and staff will perform in this annual event
featuring music from 1965 in the Nora Hagen Theatre.
May 8 – Glen Oaks Graduation – This year will feature the première showing of the graduation
video with a historical theme.
May 15 – Glen Oaks Foundation Gala – The Glen Oaks Foundation will host a gala fundraising
event for the College.
May 16 – Glen Oaks Nursing Reunion – All nursing alumni will be invited to a nursing reunion to
be held at the College.
June 13 – Summer Kickoff Community Celebration — A fun day at Glen Oaks filled with many
activities is being planned. Events will move to the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds at night and will
feature a free community concert by Blue Moon Swamp, a Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute Band.
More details will be forthcoming on the all of the activities and events scheduled on that day.
Other events will include participation in Sturgis Fest Week, Three Rivers Water Festival, and other
community festivals and parades in St. Joseph County.
