beginning in March and in April.
“There are numerous positions available in the county for certified nurse aides,” said Dr. David Devier,
Glen Oaks president. “We are trying to help meet the need by offering this course during the evening
and on days and times that include weekends to try to help students better fit it into their schedules.”
The six-credit hour Nurse Aide course teaches students the skills required to certify as a nurse aide and
prepares them for the state certification exam. The training helps one understand his or her role in
relation to that of patients and nursing home residents.
Nurse aides perform a wide range of tasks and provide direct patient care. They help move and
transport patients, educate patients and family members about health issues and treatments, take and
record vital signs, apply dressings and collect specimens for labs.
