commencement ceremony on Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the GOCC gymnasium, located at 62245
Shimmel Rd., Centreville, Mich.
Glen Oaks President David Devier will preside over the ceremony. Speaking at the event will be
recipients of the following awards.
- Presidents Award—Glen Oaks President David Devier will present Jacob Wilkins with the
President’s Award. The award recognizes a student with high achievement in academics and is
nominated by the faculty. Wilkins will be receiving his Associate of Science degree and is
graduating summa cum laude.
- E.J. Shaheen Chair for Teaching Excellence—President Devier will announce the winner of the
2013-14 E. J. Shaheen Award. Each year, the award is presented to a member of the faculty who
is nominated for innovation and quality instruction by students, alumni, fellow faculty, staff and
members of the community.
President Devier will confer the degrees. Dr. Patricia Morgenstern, associate dean of academics and
extended learning, will serve as grand marshal for the ceremony. Dr. Margaret Hale-Smith, dean of
students, and Beverly Andrews, assistant dean of enrollment services and registrar, will read the names
of the candidates as they walk across the platform to receive their degrees.
The ceremony will feature music by the GOCC Chorale, comprised of students, faculty and staff.
Tickets are required for guests to attend the graduation. Each student participating in the ceremony is
eligible to receive up to eight general admission seating guest tickets. Requests may be made for

The College holds graduation exercises annually in the spring. A listing of the graduates will be available
in June. Free parking will be available to all guests.
