DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In compliance with NJCAA regulations, the Head Coach’s primary duty will be to direct and coordinate the activities of the sports program they are coaching in planning, organizing, and, most importantly, coaching/instructing the student-athletes in how to perform in their sport. The position may require some travel, evenings, and weekends consistent with the athletic schedule. Examples of duties performed by this position include:

  1. Accompany the team to all athletic events and practices.
  2. Submit scholarship recipient recommendation to the Athletic Director for his/her approval.
  3. Responsible for the behavior of his/her athletes including but not limited to:
    1. trips
    2. as guests of an opponent(s)
    3. scheduled practice sessions
    4. general conduct on and off campus which is within the purview of the coach.
  4. The coach, in communication with the Athletic Director, shall be made aware of NJCAA eligibility of all athletic team members.
  5. Submit and discuss budget requests for the next budget year with the Athletic Director as well as utilize the College procurement policy pertaining to uniform, supply, and equipment purchases.
  6. Submit to the Athletic Director recommendations for the next years athletic contest schedule.
  7. Responsible for the proper use, storage and maintenance of his/her team’s equipment and ensuring that all locker/weight/equipment rooms, playing fields, and gym are left in proper order following all practices and scrimmages.
  8. Attend all athletic department meetings as scheduled.
  9. Prepare and submit a practice and gym/field schedule for gym/field usage to the athletic office and the maintenance department.
  10. Act as the designated driver to college sponsored events when either the bus or van is used to transport athletes. All coaches shall have a valid CDL with a P endorsement.
  11. The coach is responsible for recruiting athletes for his/her sport following GOCC athletic department and NJCAA guidelines.
  12. Responsible for fund raising for their sport and/or the athletic department.
  13. Each coach shall maintain the highest level of professionalism and coordinate, ensure compliance with, and follow all NJCAA and College rules, policies, and procedures. The coach shall report any ethical violations or concerns, either from or regarding students or employees.
  14. The coach will support the academic, athletic, and personal development of the student-athlete. Coaches shall not interfere with the integrity of the academic process, but will monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
  15. The coach must be physically present during the entire period of practice. At no time may a coach leave the practice area and place responsibility for a team on a student. The coach is responsible for his/her team in the locker rooms and on the practice field, playing or contest area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Associate Degree from accredited institution.
  • Two or more years serving as a head coach in college, high school or club.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid Certified, possess a CDL, and a valid driver’s license with no restrictions; or able to obtain within 30-days of employment.
  • Bachelor Degree and college coaching experience preferred.
