Jaffe (Fredrica, Neva, & Abraham) Scholarship*

Background:Abraham Jaffe created the Fund in his Trust on July 14, 1977, to be known as the FREDRICA, NEVA and ABRAHAM JAFFE SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

Nursing scholarships may be awarded to any nursing student of Glen Oaks Community College (and shall not be limited to students of Glen Oaks Community College’s Practical Nursing Program), as long as a scholarship recipient meets the remaining scholarship requirements set forth.

The Foundation is authorized to expend as much of the income from the Funds principal of $53,299 that it deems reasonably prudent in order to grant nursing scholarships to students of Glen Oaks Community College, as long as said scholarship recipients are selected in accordance with the terms of the Trust and later amended orders.

On April 6, 1999 the Probate Court for the County of St. Joseph “Reformed” provisions of the original Trust to include the appointment of Glen Oaks Community College Foundation as the Trustee, and the funds were transferred to Glen Oaks Community College Foundation.

  • Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more)

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic ability, financial circumstances and career goals will be taken into consideration in selecting the recipients.

Maintenance Criteria:

  • The recipients of the Fredrica, Neva and Abraham Jaffe scholarship will be expected to maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.0 while receiving the scholarship.

Selection Process:

Students will be selected by the Director of Financial Aid, the Dean of the College, and the Director of Nursing of Glen Oaks Community College. In the event any other member of the selection committee refuses to act, or the position or office designated as the position or office that receives the vote on the selection committee is eliminated, then the President of Glen Oaks Community College shall have the authority to appoint a new member to the selection committee, as long as said new member is a faculty member of Glen Oaks Community College’s nursing program.


  • The scholarship may be applied to tuition and fees.

Amount and Number of Awards:

There shall be no limit on the number or amount of said scholarships. In the event the income from the Fund is insufficient to award at least One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) worth of scholarships annually, then the Fund principal may be used in order to assure at least One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) is awarded annually.

The Office of Financial Aid will disburse the scholarship according to the standard school policy.

If, at any time, the College Foundation policies and procedures in effect for the administration of award and scholarship funds are changed, these provisions are automatically modified to conform.

Whenever it appears that changing conditions make this plan no longer applicable, practical, or suited to the general purposes stated above, the College Foundation would confer with the donor or their representative to secure a modification of the plan. If the Foundation is unable to locate the donor or their representative after reasonable efforts, then the Foundation is authorized to utilize the fund for any other suitable educational purpose, so that the fund will provide the maximum service to the community through the advancement of higher education.
