The scholarship fund was established ten years ago by Toby and William Isaac and daughter Melissa Isaac Delarye, of Sturgis, as a living memorial to their daughter. Kristy Isaac was a freshman at Glen Oaks planning a career in early childhood education when she died in a January 2000 automobile accident. Mrs. Isaac said the fund is a way of fulfilling Kristy’s dream of helping children and their families.
2010-2011 Kristy’s Kids Memorial Scholarships were presented August 19 at Glen Oaks Community College to several early childhood education students. The presentation was made by the Isaac Family of Sturgis in memory of their daughter, Kristy. Pictured at the scholarship presentation are students (left to right) Kimberly Eby, Karissa Yoder, Stephanie Allen, Jaquielin Hoffman, Brandi Hiemstra, and family members John Dalarye, Toby Isaac, Logan and Melissa (Isaac) Delarye. Alisha Danberry was not present at the time of the picture. The annual scholarships are made possible by donations. The Kristy’s Kids Pulled Pork BBQ dinner fundraiser is 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Sturgis Plaza, Sturgis.
Fundraising for the annual scholarship is assisted each year with a barbecue dinner. This year the Kristy’s Kids Pulled Pork Barbecue Dinner is 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, August 27 at the Sturgis Plaza. The $6.00 pulled pork dinner includes potato chips and a cookie. Advance ticket purchase may be made at Sturgis Bank & Trust Co. The proceeds help increase the Kristy’s Kids Memorial Scholarship Fund for future scholarships, according to Jean Zimmerman, Director of Financial Aid/Scholarships at Glen Oaks.
