Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC) is excited to announce that significant campus renovations began on September 23. These updates aim to modernize and improve our facilities, enhancing our ability to serve students and the community effectively.
Phase One: Upgrading Learning Spaces
On September 23, renovations began in the D Wing 400 area, where former art and design labs are being converted into state-of-the-art spaces for our Allied Health and nursing programs. Additionally, the Hagen Theater backstage area is being transformed into a new IT department workspace. We aim to complete this phase by March 2025, and efforts will be made to minimize disruptions to nearby classes.
Phase Two: Athletic Facility Improvements
After the basketball season ends in March, we will enhance our gymnasium. This phase includes constructing new locker rooms, updating the foyer, coaches’ offices, and the gym’s roof and interior. We will move the 2025 graduation ceremony to another county venue.
Phase Three: Classroom and Facility Upgrades
Once the academic year ends, we will start Phase Three during the summer. We will focus on revitalizing the D Wing 200-level classrooms and improving lighting and finishes. We plan these updates for summer 2025 to lessen the impact on daily activities.
Minimizing Disruption
We will strive to reduce disruptions during the renovations. Access to some exterior areas of D and B Wings may be limited at times, but we are committed to maintaining a smooth campus flow.
Dr. Bryan Newton, President of Glen Oaks Community College, is enthusiastic about these renovations. “These renovations are a major investment in our future, showing our commitment to top-tier educational facilities,” he said. “I am confident these enhancements will enrich our students’ learning experiences and help them achieve their career goals.” He also thanked the community, saying, “Thank you for your support and understanding as we work to improve our campus.”
