Golf Scholarship. The 2012-13 recipients, who will be joining the Viking team this spring, represent the
local area communities. Pictured from left is Joel Schroeder, GOCC’s golf coach with recipients: Max
Bales, Schoolcraft; Justin Horst, Middlebury (Clinton Christian); and Jonathon Freese, Three Rivers.
Although freshmen at Glen Oaks, all have played four years of golf for their high schools.
“These young men bring to the game of golf a complete appreciation of the sport,” says Joel Schroeder,
head golf coach. “Their track record demonstrates they understand the balance that is required
between sports and academics.”
The Paul P. Clark Scholarship was established with the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation as a
memorial to the founder of Sturgis Molded Products. An avid golfer, Paul Clark founded the company in
1966 and it quickly grew to be the largest employer in Sturgis. Although Paul Sr. never achieved a single-
digit handicap, his passion for the game was boundless.
Clark played the game with the same drive and desire to achieve, for which he was known throughout
his business career. It is in his honor that the Paul P. Clark Golf Scholarship was developed to promote
and recruit skilled student athletes to the Glen Oaks Community College golf program.
“The Foundation is honored to annually recognize the recipients as well as our 35 other named student
scholars,” says Janene Breneman, executive director of the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation. If
