Southern Michigan Bank & Trust establishes Business Scholarship at Glen Oaks

Southern Michigan Bank & Trust has established an endowed business scholarship with the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation. As an endowed scholarship, the principal will be preserved and the scholarships awarded to deserving students will be paid from the income generated from the interest earned.

The Southern Michigan Bank & Trust Scholarship is available to students who are residents of St. Joseph, Branch and Calhoun Counties, who will be pursuing a Business and Finance major, while attending full-time (12 credit hours). The scholarship is awarded based on academic ability, financial need, and to students committed to Business who plan to complete a two-year degree or qualified certificate program at Glen Oaks Community College. Recipients will be expected to maintain a semester grade point average of at least 2.5 while receiving the scholarship. The scholarship may be applied to all education-related expenses.

“Southern Michigan Bank & Trust is deeply committed to supporting the educational, philanthropic and artistic programs in the communities where we live and work,” said Kurt Miller, bank president. “We are very pleased to be able to establish a business scholarship to support the studies of area students who plan to attend GOCC. We have enjoyed a long partnership with the college and appreciate the opportunity to extend our support through the new Southern Michigan Bank & Trust Business Scholarship.”

Janene Breneman, executive director of the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation, said the College is very pleased with the establishment of this scholarship and the long term support from Southern Michigan Bank & Trust.
