Faculty and staff to volunteer at local non-profits on March 19 to give back to St. Joseph County
Glen Oaks Community College faculty and staff will step out of the classroom and into the community on Wednesday, March 19, as part of the Vikings Day of Service, a key event in the college’s week-long inaugural celebration for President Dr. Bryan Newton.
The Vikings Day of Service encourages faculty and staff to volunteer at various St. Joseph County non-profits, reinforcing Glen Oaks’ commitment to service and community engagement. Volunteers will assist organizations in areas such as youth mentorship, homelessness support, senior services, and food insecurity.
“Glen Oaks is a part of the community,” said Dr. Bryan Newton, GOCC president. “This event is an opportunity for us to give back to the people and organizations that make St. Joseph County such a great place to live and work.”
Participating non-profits include:
- Affinity House (Pivotal) – Supporting individuals in addiction recovery
- Keystone Place – Providing shelter and support for the homeless
- Rooted of St. Joseph County – Supporting foster children and families
- St. Joseph County Commission on Aging – Enhancing services for older adults
- Three Rivers Area Mentoring (TRAM) – Offering mentorship programs for youth
- St. Joseph County 4-H – Supporting educational programs for young leaders
- St. Joseph County Grange Fair – Assisting with preparations for community events
- United Way/WBET Food Drive at Walmart (Sturgis) – Collecting donations for the GOCC Food Pantry
While Glen Oaks offices will remain open, employees are encouraged to take time from their day to participate.
