Frequently Asked Questions
What if I sign up for a Nelnet Payment Plan before I get my financial aid award?
If you sign up for a Nelnet Payment Plan before you receive your financial aid award, you will be enrolled in a regular monthly Nelnet Payment Plan. After your financial aid has been disbursed to your account, it will reduce OR eliminate your balance. Your payment plan will only be inactivated if your financial aid covers your entire balance due. If you need to be switched to the Pending Aid Plan, you must contact the Glen Oaks Cashier at 269-294-4235. This can only be done through the last day to enroll. The last date to enroll for any Nelnet Payment Plan can be found on the Nelnet brochure or you may visit Nelnet Payment Plans.
Can I cancel my payment plan?
You may request that your Nelnet Payment Plan be modified if you are going to re-enroll in another plan or your charges have been paid in full. This must be done by the Glen Oaks Cashier’s Office. You cannot cancel your own payment plan for any reason. Your plan will automatically inactivate upon full payment of your balance due.
Can I sign up for text message reminders?
What if I do not have a financial account or a credit card but need to register for Nelnet?
Because a financial account or a credit card is required to sign up for a Nelnet Payment Plan, you are required to have a obtain a bank account, a credit card, or a prepaid debit card. Information from some of our area banks is available outside Student Services. You may also want to look at the article Best Prepaid Debit Cards to you with Direct Deposit to view prepaid cards that work like bank accounts and/or credit cards.
Please note: A student should not use a bank account or credit card when they are not a signor on the account. The student needs to log into the payment plan first and designate their authorized payer. This must be done within 48 hours to avoid being removed from classes for non-payment.
What if I register online but don’t want to pay with a credit card or sign up for Nelnet?
I don’t want to wait to receive my financial aid award from GOCC before registering for classes. What do I do?
If you register for classes before GOCC has prepared your financial aid award, you will need to sign up for a monthly Nelnet Payment Plan. This means that the non-refundable Nelnet enrollment fee of $30 will be charged. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the Glen Oaks Cashier’s Office when they are aware their financial aid has been awarded if they would like to switch to the Nelnet Pending Aid Payment Plan.
I have registered for classes and signed up for Nelnet, but now I need to add another class or drop a class. What do I do?
Simply complete the add/drop process as you would normally do online or in person. Your schedule change will automatically be updated with Nelnet Campus Commerce with 24 hours. It is the student’s responsibility to check their Nelnet account to verify the account changes have been updated.
I have a scholarship that will pay all of my tuition and fees for this semester. Do I still have to sign up for Nelnet?
Yes. All GOCC students who receive financial aid, including scholarships, must sign up for Nelnet Payment Plan. If you have received your award package from GOCC by the time you register for classes, you will be directed to signed up with the Nelnet Pending Aid Plan. You will not be charged an enrollment fee if your scholarship and other financial aid cover your entire balance due.
My employer will be paying for my tuition and fees. They haven’t turned in the Third Party Payment Authorization yet, but I need to register for classes. What should I do?
You may pay by cash, check or credit card, enroll in the Nelnet Payment Plan or work out a reimbursement with your employer.
My financial aid award has been finalized, and it does not cover the full tuition and fee amount. Is there any way I can pay the balance in full so I do not get charged the $25 enrollment fee?
Yes. If you have partial financial aid, you still need to sign up for the Nelnet Pending Aid Plan. When in this plan, if you pay the difference between your GOCC costs and your financial aid to the Cashier’s Office, you will not be charged the $30 Nelnet enrollment fee. This would need to be paid three business days before your Nelnet payment due date. You may login to your Nelnet account through SSO to make unscheduled payments as well but you will incur the $30 enrollment.
I have monthly Nelnet payments coming out of my checking account, but I do not have enough money in the account to cover this month’s payment. What will happen?
Nelnet Campus Commerce will charge you a $25 NSF fee each time the bank tells them there is not enough money in the account. Nelnet will present the tuition payment request to your bank two more times for payment. Your bank may charge you additional fees for each time it returns your check for insufficient funds. Check with your bank regarding their specific fees and policies.
When you have accumulated $75 or more in NSF fees that are due to Nelnet Campus Commerce, you will be required to pay Nelnet in full before you can enroll in any future payment plans.
I signed up for Nelnet last semester. Do I have to sign up for it again if I want to use it this semester?
Yes. You must re-enroll in a Nelnet Payment Plan each semester that you register for classes.
I lost my credit card and had to cancel it with the credit card company. It was the card in which I was having monthly Nelnet payments charged. My credit card company has issued a new card to me with a new number. What do I need to do?
It’s after the 100% drop date, but I need to withdraw from all my classes due to outside circumstances. Payments have already been taken out of my bank account. How do I stop the payments when I’m no longer enrolled in classes?
The payments cannot be stopped. Because you are withdrawing from classes after the refund period for the semester, you are still responsible for paying the full tuition and fee amount for those classes. Full refunds are made only on classes that are dropped before the 100% drop date published in the class schedule/calendar.
I signed up for classes early and have already made a monthly payment. Now, due to outside circumstances, I won’t be able to attend college this semester and have to drop all of my classes. It is before the 100% refund period date. How do I get the money back for the monthly payments I’ve already made?
Complete all the proper procedures to drop your classes in MyGOCC or by filling out a Drop/Add form and submitting it to The Registration Office located in Student Services. This will change your status as a student with the College. Within 24 hours, GOCC and Nelnet Campus Commerce will auto adjust your balance based on the changes made. You should work directly with the GOCC Cashier for a refund of the tuition and fees that have been paid. The $30 enrollment fee is non-refundable.
My Nelnet payments are coming out of my account on the 5th of the month. Can I get this date changed to a different time of the month?
No. Nelnet Campus Commerce deducts all payments on the 5th of each month for the monthly Nelnet Payment Plans, and the 20th of each month for the Nelnet Pending Aid Plan.
When and what time will the funds be withdrawn from my bank account?
Nelnet specifies the date each payment will occur, but it is your financial institution that determines the time of day the payment is debited. Nelnet recommends you check with your financial institution to determine how far in advance funds should be deposited into your account to ensure the automatic payment clears. If a payment date falls on a weekend or banking holiday, the payment will be attempted the following business day.
How will I be notified of my payment information?
Once your agreement is posted to the Nelnet Campus Commerce system, you will receive a confirmation notification of your payment amount by e-mail. You may also sign up for text message alerts. Payments will be processed until the total balance is paid in full.
Can I pay by phone with Nelnet?
In accordance with the Terms & Conditions of your Nelnet agreement, payments are processed electronically. Nelnet does not accept payments by phone.
If payments are made automatically from my bank account or processed to my credit card, does that mean Nelnet or GOCC has direct access to my account?
No one other than your own financial institution and you ever has access to your account. When you arrange to have an automatic payment through Nelnet, you have authorized a specific payment amount to be paid on a specific date by your bank.
Will Nelnet disclose my personal information to a third party?
No. Nelnet acts as an agent for institutions in administering their payment plans. It is the policy of Nelnet to protect all personal and financial information provided to us by all participants. Nelnet does not sell or share any non-public personal information or client lists to any third party, except as agreed to by you, or as may be necessary to complete a transaction in the ordinary course of business, or as required under an applicable law.
Can Nelnet provide a payment report for tax purposes? How can I get one?
A printable payment summary is available for the customer in their Nelnet account on the Payments tab. It can be printed for a calendar year or a date range.
