Glen Oaks to host a ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking ceremony.

Glen Oaks Community College will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the north campus renovation project completion and a groundbreaking ceremony for the south campus renovation project on Thursday, February 22, at 10 a.m.

Funding for the $7.3 million renovation of the north campus was approved by The Board in December 2020. The project was recently completed and included the renovation of the E. J. Shaheen Learning Commons, art studio, classrooms, restrooms, and foyer. Significant infrastructure upgrades were completed, including new lighting, updated IT systems, windows, doors, fire alarms, a new electrical service including a standby generator, and a new metal insulated siding system to encapsulate the current exterior walls of the building.

USDA funding for $7.7 million is pending paving the way for the renovation of the south campus. The project includes a new entrance to the athletic areas, improvements to the fitness center, conversion of the Nora Hagen Theatre into an instructional auditorium to accommodate larger class sizes, and new Allied Health classrooms and labs.  The plan also incorporates two new locker rooms for visiting teams and renovates the two existing home team locker rooms.

Glen Oaks Community College President, Dr. David Devier, stated, “The calculation of the renovation of the north half of the campus set the stage for the remaining south half, which will complete the total updating of all interior spaces and exterior wall system of the original 1969 facility. This will provide an inviting campus where all will be delighted to study and work.”

The community, students, faculty, and all stakeholders are invited to celebrate these transformative milestones for Glen Oaks Community College.
